p.3 The Kitty Friel - The Brockville Recorder says: "A gentleman who is conversant with the facts of the burning of the steam barge Kitty Friel on the Rideau, informs us that the boat could have been saved had the men on board made half an effort. The farmers in the vicinity saved some lumber, and say that had the crew assisted them there would have been no trouble in subduing the flames."
