Marine News

The schr. Herbert Dudley started out yesterday afternoon up the lake, but when near the Ducks her jibboom and bowsprit were blown out, probably on account of some defect in her gearing. She ran back for repairs.

The schooner West Wind, of Montreal, owned by Captain J. McSherry, is a total loss of Cobourg. On Monday Calvin & Breck's steamer, the Chieftain, of Kingston, arrived here, and attempted to pull her off; but she was unsuccessful and the vessel was abandoned. The West Wind was considered one of the best and fastest sailors on the lakes. All available canvass and rigging was secured and taken away, but the total loss will amount to over $4,000. No insurance.
