p.4 Floating Facts - A storm signal was ordered up yesterday afternoon.

-The steamer Armenia brought an excursion from South Bay today.

-Last Saturday the steamer Gipsy broke her rocking shaft near Deseronto.

-The schr. Penokee discharged 22,385 bushels of wheat at the M.T. Company today.

-The schr. Oriental, which stranded in Georgian Bay this week, is owned by Capt. Lewis.

-The schooner B.W. Folger arrived at Swift's yesterday afternoon from Oswego with 170 tons of coal.

-The prop. Alma Munroe coaled at Swift's yesterday. She is on her way to Duluth from Montreal with rails.

-The prop. Armenia was chartered at Chicago on Thursday to carry 25,000 bushels of corn to Montreal.

-The mail steamer Algerian arrived at Swift's this morning from Toronto. She was only delayed a half hour by the storm.

-The steamer Passport was detained here until midnight last night on account of the storm. She was bound for Toronto.

-Five hundred bushels of corn, of the cargo of the schr. Mongangon, were found damaged when discharged at Ogdensburg last week.

-The steamer Ontario experienced much difficulty in leaving her moorings at Swift's yesterday. The heavy sea dashed her against the wharf.

-The prop. Nipigon, schr. Melbourne and schr. Middlesex have been chartered to carry 36,000, 38,000 and 35,000 bushels of wheat respectively to Ogdensburg from Chicago.

-The Canadian schooner Elgin which was stranded in the upper lakes a few weeks ago will cost the insurance companies which hold risks on her over $8,000, before she is ready for sea again.

-Grain freights were quite active at Chicago on Thursday. The demand was stronger, rates a little firmer, and the supply of tonnage only fair. All the ready tonnage on the market was readily placed at the going rates and more room could undoubtedly have been placed by agents had any been ready to load. The Buffalo rate remained firm at 1 1/2 cents per bushel for corn, and the Kingston rate at 3 1/2 cents.
