p.3 Scow Sunk In Channel - A large wooden scow, used by J.P. Porter & Sons in carrying the blasted rock from the shoals in the Brockville Narrows to deep water, where the scow was to be dumped, slowly filled with water and sank yesterday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock in the channel of the river opposite the foot of John street. The scow was equipped with hoppers through which the rock, which had been dredged from the shoals, passed to the bottom of the river. Two men were engaged in opening the hoppers when the scow was seen to be slowly sinking and the men were taken off the craft by the tug Chatson, which was towing the scow. A few moments later the scow upended and went down to a Davy Jones' locker in more than 100 feet of water.
