p.2 Commodore Barrie leaves for England, to be replaced by Hon. Capt. Byng during his absence.
We learn from good authority that it is fully expected the Rideau Canal will be so far finished in the course of next fall as to admit of Steam Boats passing through it - and that early in the summer of 1831, this magnificent undertaking will be finally completed.
We have it also from good authority that the north branch of the Ottawa River running behind the Island of Montreal, is to be rendered navigable for Steam Boats of the largest class; so that the Quebec boats may then proceed to Point Fortune at the mouth of the Grenville Canal, in the upper province. Point Fortune it is supposed will ultimately become a port of entry for vessels direct from Sea.
