Two Vessels Gone To Pieces And Four More Ashore.
The Chicago Press gives particulars of heavy losses of the gale of Wednesday night on Lake Michigan.
About daylight on Tuesday morning the new schooner KOSSUTH went down outside the breakwater at Chicago, having been blown out from the north pier to which she had been moored. Her crew were saved by the tug LEVY. She was owned by C. Raab, of Sheboygan, and cost $10,000. Money on board amounting to $2,100 belonging to the owner was also lost.
The schooner HARRIET ROSS was brought in by the tug McQUEEN, having been blown back with loss of bulwarks, booms and damaged sails. Her cargo of wheat is nearly destroyed by the water.
The schooner MARY JANE went on the beach 12 miles below Chicago and the crew report her going to pieces.
The LEWIS ERWIN is ashore at the same place.
Much anxiety has been felt for the steamer CLEVELAND due from Queen Bay, but she arrived, having had her fires put out several times during the storm - and her bulwarks, gangway, kitchen and Barber shop completely smashed. Capt. Flood says the passengers, 60 in number, turned out nobly to the pumps, with the exception of one Englishman who "had paid his passage and didn't mean to work it."
