Description
Full Text

Tonawanda, Sept. 9 - Early this morning while the stmr. GEORGE SPENCER was coming down the west channel of the river she ran hard aground at the head of Little Island. The services of several tugs were needed to get her off, after which she was towed to the dock. The SPENCER was loaded with ore consigned to the Tonawanda Iron & Steel Plant. She had on nearly 1,400 tons.
The cause of the accident was due to the lowness of the water in the river. The damage to the SPENCER, although slight, will have to be repaired before her departure for other ports.
