COMPANY "D'S" EXCURSION. - The pleasure excursion of Company "D" on the steamer CITY OF BUFFALO, was one, if not THE feature of the celebrations of the Fourth. The steamer left her dock about 12:30 o'clock P.M., the Union Cornet Band discoursing some of their sweetest strains by way of a parting salute to the hundreds of spectators who lined the wharf. ........
The turning of the steamer a little above Dunkirk for home again, was scarcely noticed, and tripping toes still lightly pressed the cabin floor, as we again entered the harbor, and had Captain Perkins run the steamer straight to her dock, there would have been nought to have marred the harmony of the trip. But he desired to save time, (not for his passengers, the Lord knows) concluded to turn the boat before landing, notwithstanding the fact that the brig FANNY GARDNER lay aground waiting for a tug, and lamost directly in the way of the proposed round house. He made the effort, however, and after a tedious hour's delay succeeded in running into the main boom of the brig, which slowly, but very decidedly pushed its way into and through the Bridal Chamber of the steamer, which investigation on the part of said boom was made at an expense of one hundred and fifty or two hundred dollars to the owner of the steamer, after which exploit Captain Perkins quietly waited until the tug towed her off. - (article greatly condensed)
