Built at marine City, Mich., in 1975 as propeller GLADYS. Became Canadian and renamed NORTHERN BELLE in 1877, of 513 tons. 129 x 23 x 10 Burnt and sunk in Byng Inlet, Georgian Bay, Lake Huron, November 7, 1898.

Collingwood, November 7. -- The steamer NORTHERN BELLE burned on the Magnettwa River yesterday. The passengers and crew reached Parry Sound on a tug today. The NORTHERN BELLE, which was owned here was valued at $15,000 and was of 290 tons.

Location of wreck of NORTHERN BELLE. Chart No. 2293. North 45 degrees 46', 1", West 80 degrees, 35', 20". Proceeding from Byng Inlet and heading towards Georgian Bay, pass Rabbit Island and Old Mill Island then Wright's Marina on your right hand side [1875] -- About a half mile past the Marina and on the left, painted on a rock on shore is the name NORTHERN BELLE -- Move back to the next rock, [about 100 feet back] and the ribs can be seen just below the surface about 20 feet from shore.
