Islander - Master, John Bertrand; chief engineer, John D. Carter.

Club Ramble Yacht - Master, E.M. Charlebois; engineer, Frederick C. O'Brien; purser, Carl E. Bertrand.

America - Master, R.H., Carnegie; chief engineer, M.D. Tetro; steward, Arthur Sparham.

Pierrepont - Master, James F. Allen.

Roller Boat Saved From Scrap Heap.

Ogdensburg, N.Y., March 6th - Reports from Toronto are to the effect that the famous Knapp roller boat, which created a sensation in a trial trip between here and Prescott, is not to go to the scrap pile. To save it from being broken up the Knapp interests have come forward with $1,000 to cover claims and court costs against it, and it is stated that the marine "freak" is to be made into a ship of some kind.

Mr. Knapp, who is now in Kingston, has designs for a larger and more complete boat of the same circular shape, and when he returns to his home in Prescott the experiment work will resumed. Mr. Knapp has expectations of developing a boat which will roll across the Atlantic in less than three days.



It would appear as if Kingston is one of the big ice centres this year. A number of vessels have been secured to load ice for Fairport, and reports from that district say that there a scarcity of ice there, in fact one report says that some of the companies have been unable to secure one-half the necessary supply. A couple of the Calvin boats are loading ice, and the schooners Clara and Ford River have been chartered for the same purpose. The work of loading the schooner Ford River has been completed and the loading of the Clara will commence at once. Outside parties have been endeavoring to charter vessels for several days past.

The Hepburn boats, at Picton, will also load ice. Capt. George Horne is at present engaged in overseeing the rigging of the schooner Clara.

Meeting of Yachtsmen - Eastern Lake Yacht Racing Association annual meeting held at Watertown; George Cup race between Crescent of Watertown and Kathleen of Kingston to be held at Kingston on July 2nd; regatta to be held at Trenton about Aug. 9th.

They Were Banqueted - about thirty local marine engineers and lake captains hold gathering.

p.8 Wolfe Island News - ...Two mates were engaged for the boat, the captain engaging one and the council the other. The old crew, except the engineer and fireman, are the same. Rawley Mullin and Edward Walker are going on the steambarge Simla, of Garden Island. The new engineer is "Del" Simmons, of Garden Island.... The Calvin Company, Garden Island, are employing twenty-five Wolfe Island young men in the ice business, as they have three large boats to load for a Chicago firm.
