The previous two silent auctions were so successful that we were able to avoid any fee increases to our members, despite rising costs of "Scanner" and meetings. In the past year, members have donated to the Society more materials to be sold for the Society's benefit, and some of them are very interesting. An auction of such items not only serves to put memorabilia in the hands of members who will appreciate the items, but also benefits all of the members by enabling us to hold the line on fees. And there are no up-front acquisi tion costs for the Society which could cut into our profit. So please take a good look at the details of the items for sale as well as the rules for the auction. Then clip the bid coupon and send it to Gordon Turner as soon as possible so that he can record your bids. All bids must be received no later than Friday, April 16, 1999. Happy bidding! And sincere thanks to all for their continued support of the Toronto Marine Historical Society. * * * * * SEAWAY SHIPS 1998 Longtime and stalwart T. M. H.
