M4W 2C7 W 6 M EETINGS Saturday, October 4 - 2: 30 p. m. at the Swansea Town Hall. As usual, we will start the new season with an open slide show. Members are invited to bring up to 15 slides each to illustrate summer shipwatching, either from the current summer or anytime in the past. We have lots of interesting meeting programmes planned for the 2008-2009 society year. Watch for more details in the October issue. * * * * * * * THE E D IT O R 'S LOGBOOK We're back! We hope that you have had an enjoyable summer and have made it through with no "Scanner" since May. For the past two years, we have not had an October issue because of the Editor's vacation plans, but this year there WILL be an October "Scanner" . But there will not be an issue in No vember. Don't worry, however, about the number of issues you will receive in the 2008-2009 society year, as again we will have a January issue. So you still will get eight issues for your membership bucks. Speaking of which, Membership Fees for the 2008-2009 season are now due and payable. For details, please see the insert page, clip the coupon, and send it with your cheque to the Chief Purser at the address shown on the coupon. Please do NOT send payment to the Editor. Your early remittance will be greatly appreciated. And while on the subject of memberships, we need to acknowledge that all groups like us are suffering these days from a shrinking membership base as older members pass on and young people seem reluctant to join formal socie ties. It is essential that we sign up new members if we can, and the help of all in achieving this goal is needed. ISSN 0318-014X
