Splendid Launch.--The new brig, built by Capt. ALFRED GILSON, for CHARLES P. HELFENSTEIN & Co. of this city, was launched yesterday afternoon, in presence of a large concourse of spectators. As she glided gracefully into the water a streamer from the foremast head disclosed the name, "HELFENSTEIN," which this fine vessel is to bear.
The HELFENSTEIN is 128 feet 8 inches long on the keel; 130 feet, 3 inches on deck; 26 feet 3 inches beam, 10 feet 5 inches depth of hold, and tho' she can carry 15,000 bushels of wheat, she will not, when loaded, draw over 9 feet of water. Her model combines great capacity for stowage with the requisites for strength, and speed; and she is altogether one of the finest vessels yet turned out upon the Lakes.
Great credit is due to CAPTAIN GILSON for the beauty of model and excellent workmanship displayed in this vessel. She will be sailed by Capt. KITTREDGE, late of the Juniata Patton, who is succeeded in the command of the latter vessel by Capt. PASSMORE.
We wish every success to the officers, owners and crew of the HELFENSTEIN, and would be willing to show her anywhere as a specimen of Milwaukee ship-building.
