Erie, Dec. 14.

Melancholy. --On the 15th of Nov. last, Mr. John Collier, his wife and two children, a young man named Anthony W. Rallye, and a sailor, whose name we have not heard, left this place in an open boat for Detroit. Two weeks afterwards, the boat they had sailed in, drifted on shore at the entrance of the harbor, bottom upwards. We forbore mentioning the circumstances sooner, indulging a hope that Mr. Collier and those with him, had by some means escaped. Nothing has yet been heard of them, and there is no longer any ground for believing that they have not all perished.
