All heights are expressed in feet above the mean level of the Lake.
Magnetic Variation in 1906, increasing about 4' annually.
All Bearings are Magnetic
Soundings in Fathoms
The Datum to which the soundings are reduced, the mean level of the Lake for 1897-8, in 580.1 feet above mean tide New York or 1.16 feet below the general mean surface or 3 1/2 feet below a [mark] cut in the rock on south side of the south range Lighthouse at South Bay Mouth.
