SCHOONER DOLPHIN, OF RACINE, SUNK BY COLLISION.--This vessel is appears was sunk in the Strat by a collision with the bark Badger State, of Chicago, shortly before midnight on the 8th instant, when about six miles e. N. E. of Waugoshance light, during thick and rainy weather, with wind south. The Dolphin was struck on the port bow, and so badly injured that she went down in about twenty minutes. The Badger State lost her jibboom and bowsprit; her stem was also damaged. She took off the crew of the sinking vessel and carried them to Mackinac. The Dolphin was bound from Cleveland to Milwaukee with a cargo of 415 tons of coal. She was built at Milwaukee by Allen, McClelland & Co., in 1862, and at the time of her loss was the property of Messrs. Dutton & clark, of Racine, and B. B. Jones, of Buffalo. She measured 322 tons burden, old style, rated A 1, was valued at $14,000 and insured in the Republic of Chicago, for $11,000. the Badger State was bound from Chicago to Saginaw, to load.
