HEAVY GALE. - The wind blew a gale last night, accomompanied by rain and
sleet. The harbor is crowded with vessels this morning, and more are constantly
arriving. There is considerable damage already reported, besides several minor
casualties, caused by collisions, &c., in the harbor. The following is all we have
have been able to learn up to the hour of going to press.
The scow Schooner HOME, Capt. Gintz, from Erie to this port, with coal,
went ashore last night in the bay, above the lighthouse, and is rapidly going to
pieces. Her crew, consisting of five men and one woman, were taken off this
morning by launching the life boat through the surf. The vessel is insured for
$2,000, and belongs in Erie.
