Wisconsin (Steamboat), aground, 6 Nov 1842

Steamer Ashore - Gentlemen from the west today say the stm. WISCONSIN, Capt. Randall, of this port, is ashore 6 miles north of Chicago Light. her passenger were taken off by the stm. HURON of Chicago, and conveyed to that port in safety. Lieut. Ottinger of the Revenue Cutter, who is familiar with the upper lakes coast, is of the opinion that the WISCONSIN is on a sandy bottom and cannot receive any material injury even should she not be immediately removed. Messrs. Gelston & Evans and the master are principally interested in the safety of this boat.
      We learn from the Chicago Express that some forty tons of merchandise, comprising nearly the whole cargo, was safely landed at Chicago. The boat went on shore during a thick fog.

The steamer WISCONSIN, which was ashore on Lake Michigan, a few weeks since, has been got off without serious injury. The WINCONSIN and GREAT WESTERN were lying in the St. Clair River on Friday and Saturday, owing to the low stage of the water, caused by the late south westerly gale. They were unable to cross the St. Clair Flats.
