Oneida (Propeller), struck bridge, 7 Aug 1887

Chicago.---Captain McAuley of the steambarge ONEIDA, which ran into the lake Street bridge Monday, deposited $200 with the City as a surety that the city could recover the damage done to the bridge. The captain ststed that he tried to signal the engineer to stop, but the bell-cord broke, and before he could do anything the accident had happened.
