Illinois (Propeller), lost smoke pipes &c., 16 Nov 1849

MARINE.---The schooner TWIN BROTHERS, loaded with lumber, grounded between the
Government piers at Milwaukee, during the gale on Friday last, and was pounding pretty hard the last heard from.
The schooner HENRY CLAY, loaded with lumber, missed the harbor entrance, and ran hard aground on the beach a few rods north of the piers.
The propeller ILLINOIS, bound up, carried away her smoke pipes and blowers during the gale, and was compelled to anchor in the bay, partly under the lee of the North Point. She was riding it out easy when last seen.

      THE GALE
Marine Disasters. - We noticed on Saturday, the arrival of the steamer LEXINGTON, from Green Bay. She grounded on the bar at the inner end of the piers, in running into the harbor. She now lies at Williams & Co. dock. Leakage found to be near high water mark. She is preparing to leave for Chicago. --- Mil. Wisconsin.
The schooner HENRY CLAY has been got off, and is now inside the pier, taking on her cargo of lumber which she was obliged to throw off, when aground near the bar. --- Ib.
      The schooner E. CRAMER received a slight damage in entering the harbor, occasioned by parting her anchor cable. --- Ib.
      The propeller ILLINOIS, which we reported as at anchor, came into the river yesterday, and now lies at Dousman & Co's wharf. She threw overboard about $1,500 worth of her cargo, and sustained damage to the amount $500. --- Ib.
      Capt. Humphrey reports that the SAM WARD has broken her walking beam, and damaged other parts of her engine in Saginaw Bay, and that she was towed to Presque Isle by the brig ROBERT BURNS, Capt. Humphrey also reports several vessels on Lake Michigan, bound for this port. --- Ib.
      The schooner SUSQUEHANA, had her bowsprit carried away during the storm.

The propeller ILLINOIS came into the harbor yesterday morning and now lies at Dousman & Co's wharf. She rode out the gale in safety and suffered but little damage. She threw overboard a quantity of pig-iron, and 50 or 75 barrels of oysters. But little damage done to the balance of the cargo.
