No. 107 (Barge), sunk by collision, 21 Jun 1899

Description
Full Text

As a result of a collision in the Creek yesterday morning, the barge 107 lies on the bottom at the Lackawana ore docks. The barge was struck by the JOHN EMORY OWEN, while the latter was coming into the harbor. The OWEN took a sheer as she was entering, striking the barge on the port quarter. The barge filled with water and sank. The hole made by the collision is believed to be a large one. The OWEN was not injured. A correct estimate of the damage to the barge cannot now be given, but it will not be large. Capt. Durfee is the master of the barge. His cabin was badly smashed. Capt. Fred Hart is master of the OWEN The barge is owned by the Minnesota Steamship Co.; the OWEN belongs in Detroit.
