The canal tug PURITAN of the White Star Line and the Great Lakes tug ROBERT H. HEBBARD collided in the Buffalo River at the foot of Illinois Street yesterday afternoon. In the crash the PURITAN's side was stove in and she sank.
The HEBBARD was coming out of the Illinois Slip and the PURITAN was moving in at the time of the accident. The PURITAN crashed into the port bow of the HEBBARD and then ran on 100 feet before she listed, filled and sank. Capt. David Hazen, the owner, had charge of the PURITAN. He was slightly injured in the crash. Captain Hazen's son was in charge of the HEBBARD. The HEBBARD was slightly damaged. The crew of the PURITAN was rescued by the tug CONNEAUT and Captain Hazen was sent home.

      The Buffalo Dredging Company has succeeded in raising two sunken tugs. The little FAUST of the Owens Line, which went to the bottom in the Commercial Slip was lifted yesterday. After pumping her out, examination proved that she was only slightly damaged. The White Star Line tug PURITAN, which went to the bottom of the Main Street Slip in collision with the tug HEBBARD of the Great Lakes Towing Company, was raised Saturday night and will be taken to drydock for a general overhauling. Her cabin is completely destroyed, but her hull appears to be in good condition.
