W. P. Thew (Propeller), fire, 18 May 1892

Description
Full Text

Some of the passengers on the excursion stm. SAILOR BOY,
which rescued the crew of the burning stm. THEW on Sunday near
Chicago, reported the captain "for endangering the lives of his
passengers by going up to a burning steamer in a gale of wind."
But they got no satisfaction. The steamboat inspectors
pronounced the action of Capt. Gilson as humane and heroic, and
just what any man with a heart in him would have done under
similar circumstances.
