Flower City (Steamboat), U120413, fire, 6 Aug 1881

Description
Full Text

The following particulars of the burning of the steamer FLOWER CITY, at Clayton, are given by an Oswego exchange: "A fire had just been started in her engine, as she had been engaged to carry an excursion to Kingston. The fire caught from a defective stack. An alarm was sounded, but after hard work it was seen that the fire could not be extinguished and she was cut adrift. She floated a little way down stream and burned about three-quarters of an hour. The sight was a grand one and was witnessed by a large number of people. After burning some time, the steam-tug McARTHUR of Canada came to her assistance, and soon had a large stream of water on the fire and succeeded in putting it out after the cabin and all the upper works had been burned. No lives were lost.
