In pre-WWI small towns in southern Ontario the telephone poles were making their presence known, even if they weren't as photogenic as the wooden bridge, the automobile and the quaint old schooner tied up in the harbour.

... so if you are going to the expense of colouring that image for sale as a postcard why not remove that ugly new pole? And then toss in a mast to balance things out! If you look around the edges, three sides were also cropped and various other details obscured.
